Default Poetry

Two poems in particular, in my opinion stand out to me. One was written to encourage a friend and the other during a morning evangelical sermon.

This one was given to encourage, and when given, I understood that the message was for more than one person. As I stated earlier, I can never quote any of the poems. Most of them were written so fast that I literally had to read them afterwards to understand the entire poem. Of course, to me that sort of makes sense because they were not given to me for my understanding, Actually, I don't think any spiritual gift that God gives is for the recipient, but rather for a ministry to folks in need of a touch from God.

The Perfect Heart

Where is your faith when the daylight goes wrong?
And where is your love when it fails?
Where is the light when the moonbeams are gone?
Have they all taken flight or sailed?

How many times have you looked up and prayed?
And how many times have you praised?
Love is much more than the phrase we all say
It's heights and its depths are grayed,

Higher than mountains, it's there I am told
Lower than valleys, it's more precious than gold,
It's more than a word from our lips to our ears
It's part of our God - - - Throughout space and years,

Folk try to tell you that your life is all-wrong
Yet you know the truth is tied in a song,
It's a song that you sing with praise on your lips
And a truth that you've known through life's worst eclipse

Christ is much nearer than we often know
He left a great message telling us so,
Just one prayer to him with faith in our heart
Makes miracles happen, - - and storm clouds depart,

Life is ere growing and we always learn
Sometimes we are failing, but Grace we can't earn,
It's given so freely from Jesus above
And the reason he died was to give us his love,

"Oh Lord I do falter and find that I sin
I feel I'm not perfect and torn deep within,
But knowing your Grace Lord has lifted me high
To know that your perfect - - and never am I".

This one was given years ago during a ministrial training seminar. I do not recall the circumstance of what triggered the poem. All I remember is that something was said and the poem began to flow. I had to write fast and then refocus on the seminar.

Triumph of Silence

The scene is set -- the mood is hate;
A man in silence awaits his fate,
A jury grand of priests, they all
Are gathered in the judgment hall,

They see the man of whom they would
Destroy His soul, if only they could,
There is no defense on his behalf;
The governor joins their staff,

The room is filled with accusations;
The man stands still with utmost patience,
In scorn and laughter, in mockery they cry,
"This man blasphemed, by law should die!"

Yet silently, He stood and heard
All of their hate, yes, every word,
A judge was He of all creation
Of every man, of every nation,

His identity would not reveal;
But to them had He chosen to conceal,
For though He died upon the cross,
The triumph of silence did save the lost.

There are quite a few more to be honest, but to list them all would take lots of space here. At no point have I ever claimed to be a poet. Unless the spirit of God directs me, I can not write anything with a cohesive meaning.

God always does a perfect work without our intervention. Whenever we try of ourselves we tend to add our own flaws due to our limited understanding. God's spirit, however, is encompassing and reaches to spirit (the deep calling unto deep).

Whenever God gives us a message, or unction, we must step aside and let the spirit of God flow.
